Public Schools

The Warren County School District (WCSD), one of the few county-wide school districts in the Commonwealth, was created in 1966, when the Warren Borough School District merged with four small, rural school districts in the surrounding communities of Warren County. Since that time, WCSD has offered a quality education to the students of Warren County by focusing its resources on the pursuit of its mission. "The mission of the Warren County School District, where today's student is our future, is to equip all students with the educational skills necessary to achieve their unique personal potential."
At 788 square miles in size, the District is geographically the second largest in Pennsylvania. WCSD provides an education to over 5,221 students in 14 schools, and is organized into four distinct attendance areas that spread across the county's vast expanse of farmland and beautiful wooded hills.

What makes the Warren County School District such a great place for educating children? Here's a partial list:

Curriculum.
The Warren County School District offers a robust curriculum that fully addresses the Pennsylvania Academic Standards and in many cases moves students well beyond the expectations. Faculty members have participated in extensive training in differentiated instruction as well as other current instructional practices to ensure appropriate delivery of instruction to enhance the success of all students. Each curricular area is reviewed regularly to ensure compliance with the state standards and update content and instructional methodologies as needed. The district maintains a dual enrollment program in cooperation with Clarion University, allowing students to earn college credits while completing their high school requirements.

Technology. WCSD is dedicated to bringing technology into theclassrooms for both students and teachers. The district website (www.wcsdpa.org) provides students, teachers, and the community in general with resources and information regarding the school district.

Facilities. The Warren County School District delivers quality educational opportunities from fourteen sites located throughout Warren County. Seven locations offer elementary programs, most of these from recently renovated or newly constructed facilities. There are also seven facilities that are dedicated to providing quality secondary educational opportunities delivered in a variety of grade configurations and programs, most notably are the Warren County Career Center and the Warren County Learning Enrichment Center. The Warren County School District is in the process of completing the Master Facilities Plan, a comprehensive view and guide to future renovation and/or new construction within the Warren County School District with an eye towards twenty first century schools.

Additional Educational Opportunities.
WCSD students can take advantage of the Learning Enrichment Center (LEC) or the Warren County Career Center (WCCC) for additional educational opportunities. The Gifted Support program, through the LEC, strives to provide a combination of accelerated learning and enrichment opportunities to gifted students in grades K-12. It also provides the same opportunities to high-achieving students in grades 8-12. The WCCC offers high school students courses in electronics, computer technology, machine technology, culinary arts, and other fields to help prepare them for the workplace.

Commitment to Professional Development. The Warren County School District believes in helping its teachers and administrators achieve and maintain the skills necessary to be recognized as "highly qualified" under Federal and State guidelines. Our academic coaches, administrators and teachers with specific areas of expertise combine to provide on-going, sustainable professional development that directly impacts what teachers do in the classroom every day.

Academic Coaches. The district employs academic coaches to provide support in a variety of curriculum areas. Coaches are very knowledgeable in their area and work with other teachers to design, and implement best practices, and serve as resources for their fellow teachers.

Strong Community Relationships. The WCSD supports strong relationships with other community groups and government entities, such as the Alliance for a Better Community, the Warren-Forest Early Childhood Alliance, Family Services of Warren, Warren County Chamber of Business and Industry, and the Warren County Commissioners, in an effort to strengthen and promote Warren County. In addition, programs such as School Law Enforcement Liaison Team (SLELT), and Student Assistance Program (SAP) have promoted healthy relationships with local law enforcement agencies.

Comprehensive Special Education Program. The Warren County School District provides programs and services in accordance with Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Pennsylvania Chapter 14 Special Education regulations. The WCSD has developed a strong special education program that works with the student, parents, and teachers to develop an appropriate educational program to serve each child's individual needs.

Extracurricular activities. Students in all schools have access to competitive PIAA sports programs, instrumental, vocal and dramatic activities as well as various clubs and student organizations. Student organizations such as The National Honor Society and Key Club maintain a strong record of community service to the Warren County area. The district has a rich history of success in academic competitions including academic bowl, Junior Engineering and Technology Society (JETS), various mathematics and technology competitions, Skills USA, and DECA. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in activities since research demonstrates that being connected to the school community in some way beyond academics helps to promote student success and achievement.

Support for Alternatives to Public Education. The Warren County School District recognizes that some students require an alternative approach to public school. The district supports these students by maintaining a complete cyber-school program which students can take advantage of in full or as a blended student, combining some traditional courses with cyber courses. In addition, the district supports and assists efforts in home schooling, private and charter schools and other cyber schools.

These are just some of the positive things happening in the Warren County School District that makes the district a positive and effective learning environment for its students. If you have questions about the Warren County School District, please visit our website at www.wcsdpa.org for more information.

Private School

St. Joseph

Saint Joseph is a diocesan school sponsored by the local Catholic parishes. Enrollment is open to all students, preschool through grade six, regardless of religious affiliation or parish association. The Benedictine Sisters, from St. Marys, PA, established Saint Joseph School in 1895. The present St. Joseph Educational Center was built in 1980 at 608 Pennsylvania Avenue West in Warren.

Through the teaching of gospel values, St. Joseph promotes respect, consideration, and compassion for each other. The school provides experiences through cooperative and independent learning, extra-curricular activities, and community involvement to enable students to achieve and care for others. These ongoing learning processes lead to the ultimate education of the mind, body, and soul.

Warren County Christian School
Warren County Christian School, located on Route 6 just west of Youngsville, is engaged in an educational ministry which reaches all of Warren County and surrounding areas. WCCS offers a proven educational program for K through 12 based on biblical principles. The system is supported by a staff of highly qualified educators who, as Godly believers, are vitally concerned with the growth and development of their students. In addition to a college preparatory core curriculum, WCCS offers many electives as well as a Discovery Program for special-needs students. The program uses non-tutorial, intensive, individualized educational therapy designed by the National Institute for Learning Disabilities. The goal of Discovery is to fortify perceptual and cognitive skills, allowing students to become independent learners. Contact the school at (814) 563-4457.

Calvary Chapel

Calvary Chapel Christian School is a private, non-public school on Route 62 in Russell. It operates without state regulations. The school was started in 1987 by Pastor Jeff York. His vision was to use the school as an outreach from fellowship and give parents an alternative education for their children. Calvary offers grades Pre-K – 12. They use A-BEKA developed by Pensacola Christian College in Florida for grades K-6. A combination of A-BEKA and a Pace program is used in grades 7-12. The Pace program is Accelerated Christian Education or A.C.E. in which the students work at their own individual program. The Bible is used daily as a part of the curriculum.

Students have daily Bible studies to train the whole child so that he or she will develop according to the example of Jesus Christ, who "increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." (Luke 2:52) Calvary believes they are Accepting Today's Challenges, Shaping Tomorrow's Leaders. They have a staff dedicated to teaching children. If you want more information call (814) 757-8744.

Home-school

Warren is the ideal place to home-school your children. Pennsylvania has a well-defined law which is easily complied with and there is a positive view of home-schooling in the Warren County School District and the Commonwealth. The school district policy is that home-schoolers are permitted to be involved in any district curricular or extra-curricular activities they choose. Home-schoolers have opportunities to go to the Warren County Career Center for CAD or small engine repair and some have taken leadership roles on high school sports teams. There is a county-wide support group which sponsors activities and special interest groups, including field trips, a yearly Project Fair, and an Envirothon team, which recently took 2nd place in the county competition. For further information, contact Robyn Samuelson at (814) 757-8016 or via e-mail at jandrsam@westpa.net.
